Jason Winston has served on the Atlanta City Council since 2022, representing District 1 with his unique background in public service, business, and education. He is a graduate of the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University, where he studied finance and marketing and earned his bachelor’s and master’s degree. He later created his own marketing consulting business to help other entrepreneurs achieve success and served as an adjunct professor at his alma mater.
In 2024, he began to serve as chair of the City Council’s Community Development and Human Services Committee, which oversees areas such as planning, housing, economic development, parks, and matters related to various boards, including Invest Atlanta, the BeltLine, and Atlanta Urban Development. In this role, he seeks to shape public policy to enhance services in the community, facilitate increased affordable housing, and promote equitable development. Jason also serves on the Council’s Finance/Executive Committee, where he focuses on ensuring the City of Atlanta is fiscally responsible, and on the Committee on Council, where he works to ensure effective and efficient functioning of the Council’s activities. Since his first year in office, he has also been a member of Atlanta’s Pension Investment Board, which oversees and implements the provisions of the City’s pension plans.
Residing in historic Grant Park with his wife, Shalya, and two daughters, he has been actively involved at the Warren Boys & Girls Club for over a decade, where he earned the title “Coach Jason” for his dedication to volunteering and mentorship in youth sports. Outside his service on the City Council, he dedicates his time to preserving parks and expanding greenspaces through his role on the Grant Park Conservancy Board. When not at City Hall, you can find Jason cheering on his Atlanta Falcons each Sunday during football season.
