Byron D. Amos represents District 3 on the Atlanta City Council.
He is an entrepreneur, community organizer, and public education advocate with more than 25 years of experience in building stronger communities. Byron currently serves as the CEO of Capacity Builders Inc., where he oversees community empowerment and development programs that encourage citizens to engage with their local government. He is also the owner of a private security company, End All Threat Security. The company has provided security services for more than 20 years to a range of clients, including Academy Award-winning actors, Grammy Award-winning entertainers, and political figures.
Byron also served as the District 2 representative on the Atlanta Board of Education. In this role, he supported initiatives and policies that aimed to improve educational outcomes for students in Atlanta Public Schools, including the return of vocational education. Healso led efforts to create and adopt the first Atlanta Public School Equity Policy. The policy aims to bridge achievement gaps between white and Black students in Atlanta Public Schools and address socioeconomic factors that impact student learning. Byron also serves on the Community Leadership Council of the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University.
A native Atlantan and lifelong resident of Vine City, Byron has served as the chairperson of Neighborhood Planning Unit L and as president of the Vine City Civic Association Inc. In these positions, he worked to create sustainable change in the community and yielded noteworthy results, including an investment of more than $10 million for new housing in the Vine City community, acquisition of more than $2 million in public and private grant dollars for community development, and increased public greenspace.
As a result of his commitment to public service and stewardship, Byron has received many honors and awards, including being recognized as a WATL 36 Unsung Hero, as well as an Outstanding Atlantan. He is also a graduate of the FBI Citizens Academy, the City of Atlanta Citizen Police Academy, and the City of Atlanta Citizens Fire and Rescue Academy.
He is a proud graduate of the Atlanta Public School system from the historical Booker T. Washington High School. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Central Michigan University. He is the proud father of three daughters and one son and is married to Aisha Carter. He is a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Vine City, where he is a faithful servant on the trustee board.
