BACKGROUND: Members of the Atlanta City Council will participate in a tour of the Atlanta Police Academy Thursday, Dec. 12 from 2–3:30 p.m. The tour was organized by District 9 Council member Dustin Hillis, who chairs the Council’s Public Safety and Legal Administration Committee. The tour will provide Council members an opportunity to observe recruits in training and interacting with a use of force simulator that tests their decision making in high-pressure situations.

“This tour is aimed at giving us a greater sense and appreciation of what the facilities look like at the Atlanta Police Academy,” Hillis said. “Training for new recruits is designed to prepare them to serve the diverse communities of our city, so this academy is particularly important for the department. The tour also allows Council members to grow our engagement with the department as we continue to build effective partnerships within our city.”
