BACKGROUND: The Community Development/Human Services Committee of the Atlanta City Council will convene a work session on Tuesday, April 21, at 2 p.m. in the Larry M. Dingle Committee Room at Atlanta City Hall to discuss ongoing preparations for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“The Atlanta City Council is committed to ensuring our city is ready for the FIFA World Cup and that planning efforts reflect the needs of our communities,” said Community Development/Human Services Committee Chair Councilmember Matt Westmoreland. “This work session will provide an opportunity to hear directly from partners, better understand ongoing efforts, and ensure alignment as preparations continue.”
Presentations will be delivered by partner organizations involved in planning, coordination, and community involvement efforts, including Atlanta Sports Council, Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau, Partners for Home, MARTA, and Play Fair ATL.
These partners will share updates on tourism readiness, economic opportunities, transportation, and broader planning efforts, alongside strategies to support and protect Atlanta’s unhoused population and ensure the FIFA World Cup is equitable and reflective of community needs.
The work session, complementing an update from the Mayor’s Office scheduled for the April 20 Full Council meeting, is open to the public.
