WHAT: Global Diaspora Day press conference                  

WHEN: Tuesday, April 7, 10 a.m.

BACKGROUND: District 3 Councilmember Byron D. Amos will hold a press conference declaring July 25, 2026, Global Diaspora Day on Tuesday, April 7, in the Marvin S. Arrington Sr. Council Chamber at 10 a.m.

He will be joined both in person and virtually by Ghana Presidential Adviser Kofi Darko; Diaspora African Forum’s Her Excellency Ambassador Ereika Bennett; Honorable Abike Dabiri of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM); Seattle City Council President Joy Hollinsworth; District 23 Missouri State Rep. Michael Johnson; and Diaspora District Founder Manal Al-Ansi, Esq. After speaking on the impact of Global Diaspora Day, all will sign proclamations declaring July 25, 2026, Global Diaspora Day.

“Atlanta thrives because of the rich social, economic, and cultural contributions of diaspora communities who call our city home. Global Diaspora Day is an opportunity to honor the connections that link Atlanta to communities around the world and to strengthen the global partnerships that enrich us all,” Amos said.

Global Diaspora Day is a celebration that connects the African diaspora around the world into a global community and allows individuals, institutions, and governments identifying as part of the African diaspora to collaborate in cultural exchange, partnerships, investment, and more to activate the diaspora as a driver of global impact.

 About Atlanta City Council
