Atlanta City Council Requests Minimum Staffing Level for Fire Companies
ATLANTA—The Atlanta City Council approved a resolution requesting that all Atlanta Fire Rescue Department engine companies and ladder/truck companies be staffed with a minimum of four personnel per apparatus per shift (25-R-4082).
Other items approved by Council include:
- A resolution authorizing the signing of the second amendment of the project management agreement (PMA) with the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District, worth approximately $17.6 million, for the I-75/I-85 Capping Study – the Stitch, contingent upon reimbursement by the Georgia Department of Transportation or the U.S. Department of Transportation (25-R-3742).
- An ordinance renaming a portion of Pryor Road, SW and Pryor Street, SW as “Michael Langford Drive” in recognition of an Atlanta community leader who advocated for equity, affordable housing, environmental justice, food security, and public safety (25-O-1436). This item was sent to the Mayor’s Office post-haste.
- A resolution adding a $3 million amendment for green infrastructure and landscaping services, for repairs to the green infrastructure at historic Fourth Ward Park. (25-R-4077).
- A resolution to execute a three-year, $2.5 million agreement to provide telehealth kiosk services for employees. The fully integrated, portable health hub includes live video consultations with licensed medical professionals, real-time diagnostic capabilities, prescription dispensing functionality, and HIPAA-compliant privacy features (25-R-3905).
- A resolution donating $1.5 million from the Affordable Housing Trust Fund to Mercy Housing Southeast to deliver affordable housing units in the Old Fourth Ward by supporting the Henderson Place redevelopment (25-R-3987).
- A resolution to execute a $645,000 project management agreement with the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District to implement sidewalk repairs and improvements (25-R-3988).
- A resolution requesting that the City designate or acquire property within Gilbert Gardens for development of affordable housing, conduct a feasibility study and develop an implementation plan (25-R-3992).
- A resolution launching the “It Starts With Me” campaign to help Atlanta achieve and maintain 50 percent average tree cover and encouraging every city resident to employ the Front Yard Tree Program which will plant up to three trees, for free, on their property (25-R-3989).
Items introduced for consideration include:
- A resolution calling for certain prerequisites to occur prior to the adoption of any legislation to extend or establish sunset dates for any of the City’s active Tax Allocation Districts (TADs) to ensure fiscal responsibility and allow for appropriate due diligence.
- An ordinance authorizing acceptance of an approximately $1.8 million Surface Block Grant Award from the Georgia Department of Transportation for construction of pedestrian safety improvements and a shared-use trail along Lenox Road between SR 141 (Peachtree Road) and East Paces Ferry Road, near the Lenox MARTA rail station.
- A resolution executing an 18-month, $10 million cooperative agreement for winter operations and maintenance services at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
The City Council presented proclamations and recognition to attorney Donnice M. Turner, ATLDOT Biketoberfest, and the late Malcolm-Jamal Warner.
About the Atlanta City Council
The Atlanta City Council is the chief policy-making body for the City of Atlanta. It acts by considering and enacting all laws that govern the City. The Council also approves the operating and capital budgets for the City as recommended by the mayor, and it continually monitors revenues and expenditures for local government operations.
