WHAT: Judge Isabel Gates Webster Historic Marker unveiling

BACKGROUND: District 10 Council member Andrea L. Boone joins Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens in celebrating the historic marker unveiling honoring Judge Isabel Gates Webster on Thursday, Aug. 28, starting at 11:30 a.m. in Isabel Gates Webster Park. 

Judge Webster was an Associate Judge of the City Court of Atlanta, appointed by Mayor Andrew Young in 1987. Webster was a member of the State Bar of Georgia since 1958 and served for 27 years. She received numerous awards for her work including 1974 Lawyer of the Year, Black Heritage Association for Distinguished Professional Services and Leadership in the Field of Law and Black Economic Equality, and the NAACP Charles L. Harper Award for community service. Webster won several large Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, including two that opened the doors for minorities at Georgia Power and MARTA.

 

About Atlanta City Council

The Atlanta City Council is the chief policy-making body for the City of Atlanta. It acts by considering and enacting all laws that govern the City. The Council also approves the operating and capital budgets for the City as recommended by the mayor, and it continually monitors revenues and expenditures for local government operations.
