Atlanta City Council Member Michael Julian Bond Statement Following the Passing of Actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner

ATLANTA — Post 1 At-Large Atlanta City Council member Michael Julian Bond released the following statement following the reports of the passing of actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner.

"I join many fans in remembering Malcolm-Jamal Warner and celebrating his talent as an actor. He inspired and entertained a generation through his iconic Emmy-nominated role as Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, which helped shape a culture and redefine how Black youth are portrayed on television. My family and I met him during the 1988 Democratic Convention in Atlanta. We will remember his commitment to artistic integrity, and his memory reminds us that an entertainer can be a voice for justice. We were able to stay in contact with him through the years, and he remained friendly and humble. His career, beyond his early years, was dynamic, marked by starring roles in the sitcom Malcolm & Eddie and capturing a Grammy Award for Best Traditional R&B Performance for a cover of Stevie Wonder's "Jesus Children" before receiving a nomination for Best Spoken Word Poetry Album, "Hiding in Plain View". My thoughts and condolences are with his family, friends, and fans who found comfort in his work."
