BACKGROUND: Atlanta City Council members Liliana Bakhtiari and Keisha Sean Waites will honor community activist Leonard Tate on Tuesday, August 22 at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Community Ministries, 21 Bell St. NE. The unveiling ceremony will take place at the corner of Bell Street and Auburn Avenue.

Leonard Tate’s activism, commitment, and love for people aided him in becoming one of the founding members of the Georgia Black United Fund, Inc. The organization helps supports projects and programs that assist in building a self-sufficient economic infrastructure in African American communities and other underserved areas in the metro Atlanta area.

Tate accepted several roles throughout his career including serving on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Coalition for the People's Agenda, Atlanta NAACP, and Kalonji Brotherhood. His commitment to saving young men from homelessness and drug addiction led him to Trinity Community Ministries. Tate became the first Trinity Program Director and later played a vital role in acquiring a $500,000 HUD grant for Trinity to relocate to 21 Bell Street NE. Tate passed away in 2023 and will be laid to rest on August 21.
