2017 GOALS & OBJECTIVES ACCOMPLISHMENTS

The Atlanta City Council's Public Safety and Legal Administration Committee goals and objectives for 2017 are as follows:

  • Ensure that the Public Safety and Legal Administration Committee is overseeing all issues under the committees’ jurisdiction per the realignment dictated by 16-O-1650 (legislation ordaining the realignment of committees' area of jurisdiction.)

  • Work with departments under the Public Safety and Legal Administration Committee's purview to determine FY 2018 budget recommendations by February/March 2017.

  • Develop better lines of communication between City and County Public Safety offices to better understand juvenile justice issues and jurisdictional areas of responsibility.

  • Review salary, benefits, and other compensation for the Atlanta Police Department, Atlanta Fire and Rescue, and the Department of Corrections as a way to curb attrition rates.

  • Conduct study of zone assignments and sizes.

  • Work with Atlanta Police Department to help curb celebratory gunfire.

    • Conduct public service announcements on key holidays such as Memorial Day, 4th of July, New Year's Eve/Day, etc.

    • Conduct other public educational campaigns.

  • Stay up to date on code enforcement-related issues:
    • Track property forfeiture for vacant properties that are being used for illegal purposes.
    • Determine the debt attached to city-demolished properties.
