Atlanta City Council Member Joyce Sheperd to partner
with the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department for a Child Car Seat Check up/community
Health Fair
ATLANTA – Atlanta City
Council Member Joyce Sheperd will partner with the Atlanta Fire Rescue
Department for a Child Car Seat Check Up Event/Community Health Fair on
Saturday, October 6, 2012. The event will take place from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
at the Kroger Store located at 2985 Metropolitan Parkway.
This event is held annually in conjunction with other counties
and community partners and promotes healthy living, child car seat safety and
fire safety in the community.
The
Child Car Check Up Event is free and if a parent’s/caregiver’s child car
seat is damage, outdated, or unsafe, a “new car seat” will
be issue free of charge. The damaged, outdated, or unsafe seat must be
brought to the event. The new seat will be properly installed in the car to meet
state requirements.
These
replacement seats are being provided through a grant from the Governor’s
Office of Highway Safety. The goal of the grant is to provide car seats to low
income families and to educate parents/caregivers on the proper installation of
children car seat and seat belt use in the metro area.
Last year, dozens of children received free child car seats
and more than 300 adults and children received the various services offered by
the numerous community health agencies and vendors on hand.
