City Councilman Howard Shook Announces Boost in Police Manpower in Zone 2
ATLANTA
– People who live, work and play in Buckhead are now better protected, thanks
to a significant increase in the number of Atlanta Police officers assigned to
Zone Two, Councilman Howard Shook announced today.
“I
want to thank Chief Turner and his staff for the personnel increase,” said
Major Van Hobbs, who commands Zone Two. “This allows me to fully staff
several key anti-crime units, as well as dedicate officers to a burglary
investigation team.”
In
addition to the permanent increase, Buckhead is currently the beneficiary of
manpower assistance funded through a federal grant.
Councilman
Shook, who represents Buckhead, was enthusiastic about the new manpower.
“I’m grateful to the Reed Administration for their commitment to our public
safety needs. The scrapping for police resources isn’t pretty, but if
that’s not Job Number One I don’t know what is.”
Last
year, Zone Two led all the other police zones in overall crime reduction but the
number of vehicle larcenies was still a major concern. The additional officers
are focusing on vehicle car larceny cases that have increased 20.25 percent from
Jan. 1 to March 21 this year, over the same period a year ago.
