Atlanta Commission on Women to host a Women’s Health & Safety Forum

ATLANTA – The Atlanta Commission on Women will host a Women’s Health & Safety Forum from 12 until 1 p.m. on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at Atlanta City Hall.

The free event will take place in the old City Council Chamber (located in the City Hall tower), 3rd Floor, 68 Mitchell Street (entrance). The public is invited.

The forum will focus on the following topics: diabetes awareness, heart disease in women, HIV/AIDS among women, obesity, fitness/nutrition and preventive care for women, home & public safety as well as fire safety.

Established in March 2000 by the Atlanta City Council with the approval of the Mayor, the Atlanta Commission on Women studies, addresses and advocates issues affecting the quality of life, status and well-being of today’s women and girls in City of Atlanta.

The commission is also charged with reviewing new and existing laws and regulations to ensure they benefit the welfare of women and girls; the collection and dissemination of information regarding the status of women; the creation of a directory of resources and services for women and girls; and networking and collaborating with women, women’s organizations, women in business and women community leaders to assess and improve the quality of life for women and girls in the Atlanta metro area.
