ATLANTA CITY COUNCIL MEMBER JOYCE SHEPERD TO SERVE
DIABETES ASSOCIATION OF ATLANTA BOARD OF DIRECTORS
ATLANTA – Atlanta City Council Member Joyce Sheperd (District 12) been
selected to serve on the Board of Directors for the Diabetes Association of
Atlanta. Inc (DAA).
“As
a person living with diabetes, I am dedicated to educating our residents about
smart and responsible diabetes treatment and prevention,” said Council Member
Sheperd, an avid advocate for Atlantans with diabetes. “I am honored to join
such an esteemed board working to do just that.”
Established
in 1952, DAA is a full service agency committed to alleviating the medical,
financial, and psychological impact that diabetes has on individuals and their
families. DAA is one of the few nonprofit agencies in Atlanta that specifically
addresses the needs of people affected with diabetes through screening, quality
comprehensive self-management education courses and medical assistance.

Board Chair, Eric Borders, expressed his excitement with Council Member Joyce
Sheperd's decision to join the DAA Board. "We are honored that Council
Member Sheperd has decided to share her time, talents, and treasure to support
the Diabetes Association of Atlanta. With her involvement, we hope to work
closely with the Atlanta City Council, all Council Districts, and the City
employee base as a whole to increase diabetes awareness, participate in diabetes
screening events, and continue to educate the Atlanta community on healthy
living generally as well as living with diabetes specifically."
Council
Member Sheperd continues to show her support for diabetes education and
programming. For the past two years, Council Member Sheperd served as co-captain
of the City of Atlanta’s “Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes” team. Sheperd
plans to co-captain the team again. “I am excited to work with DAA and all
agencies that work to alleviate some of the issues surrounding diabetes.”
DAA is a grantee of the United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta, Inc.
with 100% of the donations received supporting our service activities across the
