Atlanta City Councilmember Ceasar C. Mitchell partners with Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions to sponsor SAT Prep Day

Free event scheduled for Saturday, April 14th at Benjamin E. Mays High School

ATLANTA – Atlanta City Councilmember Ceasar C. Mitchell has teamed up with Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions again this year to sponsor SAT Prep Day on Saturday, April 14th from 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Benjamin E. Mays High School , 3450 Benjamin E. Mays Dr. S.W. in southwest Atlanta .

Registration is required. To register, call 1-800 KAPTEST (1-800 527-8378) and give code "SKAT7034" or visit www.kaptest.com

The free event is designed to help Atlanta public school students prepare for the SAT exam and navigate them through the college application process.

The SAT Prep Day will include:

·         An SAT practice session for students (8:00 a.m. – Noon)

·         Kaplan’s Surviving College Admission workshop (8:00 – 9:00 a.m.)

·         Power lunch with Councilman Mitchell (Noon – 1:00 p.m.)

In addition, Kaplan will offer a seminar on test taking tips and other useful material for students.

“It is so important that students prepare as early as possible for college entrance,” said Councilman Mitchell.  “This Prep Day not only helps them build their test taking skills, but it also helps shake some of their fears and gives parents a chance to participate as well.”

The SAT is one of the five major factors that a college will consider when deciding whether to admit a student. The other four are: high school grades, extracurricular activities (including jobs), college essays, and the other standardized tests (such as SAT IIs) that are taken. The vast majority of colleges – more than 90% of the top* schools –require the SAT (or ACT) and say they rely heavily on this standardized exam.

Lunch will be provided to all SAT Prep Day participants, courtesy of community partner Mrs. Winner’s Chicken & Biscuits. All test results will be available Saturday, April 28th at Mays High School from 10:00 a.m. – Noon.
