ATLANTA – Atlanta City Councilmembers Joyce Sheperd,           Keisha Lance Bottoms, C.T. Martin, Carla Smith, and Cleta Winslow have teamed up to sponsor - BEHIND THE SCENES: South Atlanta Film and TV Careers Workshop, an initiative of the Community Jobs Task Force, on Saturday March 26, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Atlanta Technical College’s Academic Complex, 1560 Metropolitan Ave. S.W.

This symposium will provide attendees with an introductory and in-depth look into film careers behind the camera from those who do it. Careers highlighted include: electricians, carpenters, painters, set designers, make-up artists, location scouts, grips and more. The event will provide a space for networking with industry professionals and serve as a  pipeline for technically trained community members to obtain jobs in the film industry in years to come. Participation from members of the film industry is anticipated.

“I am excited to see such a collaborative effort to bring information about the film and TV industry to the south side of Atlanta,” Councilmember Sheperd said. “Education is the key to creating and sustaining employment opportunities in these technical fields. This event provides this education and even more.”

This first symposium will be targeted to residents in the south side of Atlanta from Council Districts 1, 4, 10, 11, and 12. The event is being held in partnership with Atlanta Metropolitan College, Atlanta Technical College, Atlanta Workforce Development Agency, Atlanta Development Authority, EUE Screen Gems Studios, and Georgia STAND UP.

ABOUT the COMMUNITY JOBS TASK FORCE

In July 2010, the City of Atlanta entered into a 50 year agreement with EUE/Screen Gems Studios. As a part of this agreement, the Council passed legislation for the creation of a Community Jobs Task Force. The purpose of this task force was to develop a strategy to create and sustain industry-related employment opportunities and business growth within the local community. Task force membership is made up of stakeholders from various industries and organization and was selected by Atlanta City Councilmember Joyce Sheperd.
