Councilmember
Clair Muller has served her neighbors in the 8th District since
1990. Clair currently chairs
the Transportation Committee and serves on the City Utilities Committee
and Finance/Executive Committee.
Clair has an extensive background in community and civic activities,
with a special focus on environmental issues.
A 1986 Leadership
Atlanta
graduate, Clair completed the Regional Leadership Institute training in
1996. Clair is a former
president of the
North Buckhead
Civic Association and has also served on its Advisory Committee.
Some of her City Council initiatives have included co-sponsoring
legislation to preserve
Atlanta
’s trees, to establish bike trails throughout the city, and to begin
citywide recycling and composting. She
also spearheaded a Waterways Task Force to seek federal funds for regional
flood control projects. Additionally,
Clair is committed to identifying and securing more green space for city
parks, and to improving pedestrian access to parks and neighborhoods
through the installation of sidewalks.
For the past fifteen years, Clair has served on local, state, and
regional committees that focus on environmental issues.
She has been active in the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) and
the National League of Cities (NLC). She
served on GMA’s board and chaired one of GMA’s committees-the
Environment and Natural Resources Policy Committee.
Clair serves on NLC’s Energy, Environment and Natural Resources
Steering Committee. Additionally,
Clair serves as chair of the Atlanta/Fulton
County
Water
Resources Commission and serves on the
Atlanta
Regional Commission’s (ARC) Board and several ARC committees, including
the Environmental and Land Use Committee and the Transportation and Air
Quality Committee.
Clair is affiliated with a variety of organizations which include
the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation, the High Museum of Art,
SCITREK, the Georgia Conservancy, the League of Women Voters, the Atlanta
Women’s Network, the Georgia Woman’s Political Caucus, the Atlanta
Historical Society, and the Atlanta Botanical Garden.
Clair is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Junior
League of
Atlanta
and a former member of the Zoo
Atlanta
Board. Clair is an alumna of
Agnes
Scott
College
and also served as a member of their Board of Trustees.
Clair currently serves on the Advisory Council of the
Atlanta
Children’s Shelter and the Advisory Board of CHRIS Kids (Children Have
Rights In Society- http://www.chriskids.org).
Clair is a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church.
She and her husband Thomas have two children, Catherine and Anne.
Away from City Hall, Clair’s passion is gardening, attending the
theater, and spending time with her family.
