Atlanta City Councilmember Michael Julian Bond Issues the Following Statement on the Passing of Former Atlanta City Council member Dozier P. Smith

I am saddened to learn of the passing of former council member Dozier P. Smith. Dozier served the southeast Atlanta community with distinction and integrity. He was a bulwark for his community and visionary. He had been a mentor to me and other council members who served with him. He will be sorely missed. He left an indelible mark on southeast Atlanta. One of his proudest accomplishments was the development of what is now the Rosel Fann Recreation Center.” – Atlanta City Councilmember Michael Julian Bond, Post 1 At-Large.

Dozier P. Smith

Dozier P. Smith, Sr. died on Sunday, August 12, 2018. He was 92. Smith was born on July 12, 1926, in Hogansville, GA. Following high school graduation, Smith enlisted in the United States Navy where he served on the USS Thurston while in Okinawa. Smith was a 1950 graduate of the University of Georgia where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration.

He ran for public office and served as an Atlanta City Council member in District 12 from 1978 until 1994, encouraging the citizens of Atlanta to "Vote for HONESTY and EFFICIENCY in your city government.”

Funeral services for Dozier P. Smith will be held on Wednesday, August 15 at 1p.m. in the chapel of Mowell Funeral Home in Fayetteville.
