Atlanta City Council Schedules Departmental Briefings on the Proposed FY2019 City of Atlanta Budget

ATLANTA – In conjunction with the annual city budget planning process, the Atlanta City Council will receive a briefing from the Department of Finance on the fiscal condition of the city and the budget development process for the proposed Fiscal Year 2019 budget from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2018, in the Council Chamber (second floor), Atlanta City Hall, 55 Trinity Avenue, S.W.

FY19 begins July 1.

The proposed FY19 total operating budget released Wednesday is set at $2.1B, with a general fund appropriation of $667.3M. The general fund expenditures reflect an increase of $18.7M or 2.9 percent over the FY18 adopted budget of $648.6M. This increase is primarily attributed to an additional:

  • $2.6M investment in Parks and Recreation upgrades;
  • $500,000 for information technology network upgrades;
  • $1.2M to establish a citywide maintenance clean-up crew;
  • Funding to raise the city’s living wage to $14 per hour;
  • A $500 one-time bonus for non-sworn employees; and
  • A $1,000 one-time bonus for sworn employees

Departmental budget briefings will start at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 23 in the Council Chamber. The briefings allow council members to discuss each department’s budgetary needs in-depth and current fiscal year expenditures.

The following departments will present their proposed budgets on May 23:
