Atlanta City Council schedules departmental briefings on the proposed FY2018 City of Atlanta Budget

Atlanta City Council schedules departmental briefings on the proposed FY2018 City of Atlanta Budget

ATLANTA – In conjunction with the annual city budget planning process, the Atlanta City Council will receive a briefing from the Department of Finance on the fiscal condition of the city, the budget development process for the proposed FY18 budget and additional financial updates from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Thursday, April 20 in the council chamber (second floor), Atlanta City Hall, 55 Trinity Avenue, S.W.

For FY18, the City of Atlanta is proposing a $2 Billion Operating Fund Budget, an increase of $30.2 Million or 1.5 percent over the FY17 adopted budget. The proposed General Fund Budget is $637 Million General Fund Budget, an increase of $29.8 Million over the FY17 adopted budget.

Departmental budget briefings will begin on Wednesday, May 3 at 10 a.m. in the Council Chamber. The briefings allow councilmembers to discuss each department’s budgetary needs and current fiscal year expenditures. The briefings will begin with the following departments:

The following departments will present their proposed budgets:

10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.        Department of Public Works/solid Waste/Fleet Services
12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.          Break
1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.            Department of Parks and Recreation
2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.            Department of Procurement 

Starting at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 11 the Atlanta City Council will hold a virtual/interactive public hearing on the proposed city budget in the council chamber when Atlanta residents, business leaders and other stakeholders will have an opportunity to ask questions about the City of Atlanta’s proposed budget the city services that will be provided or impacted. The meeting will be broadcast live on City Channel 26.

Questions from participants will be answered during the live broadcast. The meeting will also be streamed on the City of Atlanta’s website at www.atlanta.ga.gov (Click on the ATL City Channel 26 icon in the middle of the webpage and click on the words: “Watch Channel 26 Live” located on the left of the screen.)
